Walking down the paragliding trail

Paragliding Pokhara

As claimed by Lonely Planet – “A Mirror to the Himalayas”, POKHARA is the ultimate destination in Nepal that is perfect for the visit any time of the year. With diverse landscape through a sudden rise of altitude from 800-5000 meter in short distance of 25km, Pokhara offers spectacular scenery, with all possible adventure activities. Added by comfortable hotels to stay, exotic cuisines from all corner of the world, topped with a flavor of hospitable Nepalese people, Pokhara serves you an experience of a lifetime.

As regards to hotels, you can get one in any price range, starting from $5 to $250 a day. I personally prefer staying at hotels, which are located few minutes walking distance from Lakeside. We stayed at Dahlia Boutique Hotel, that is located at the end of the Fewa lake (just opposite to the Basundhara park).

Dahlia offers the unique setting with luxurious accommodation, which has been furnished and themed in Nepali style with Boutique concept. With food available at the restaurant from multiple cuisines added with friendly hospitable staffs, Hotel Dahlia is the hidden gem in Lakeside Pokhara.

Usually, we visit Pokhara for 2 to 3 days for relaxing and to chill out. But, this time the purpose of our visit was different. I, along with my team from Beyul Travel & Treks traveled to Pokhara to explore something new, something which we had never done before.

The next day…..

Travelling is fun if your fellow travelers are like-minded. For me, that means waking up early to watch the glistening mountain along the Fewa Lake or go hiking around lakeside to explore nature or cycling around the lake. So my like-minded friends and I woke up early in the morning, ready with all our gears for Sunrise view at Sarangkot. After 30 minutes jeep ride from the hotel, we reached Sarangkot at 6 in the morning.

The view from the top of the Sarangkot is mesmerizing where you can see ranges of mountains from Dhaulagiri in the West to Manaslu in the East. We were stunned to see the seductive side of the Fishtail Mountain. On the south side, you can clearly see Fewa Lake sparkling with the first strike of the sun. One hour of site seeing, we decided to have breakfast with the lake view. After filling ourselves with scrumptious breakfast in Sarangkot with lake view, we decided to go downhill to the south as we wanted to see the Take-Off zone of the paraglide. Ten minutes downhill from Sarangkot viewpoint, we reached the Take-Off zone. After, few minutes of viewing paragliding take-off we started our downhill hike towards the Fewa Lake.

The trail was straight downhill to the lake. The trail was not quite wide and it was less traveled track, but one can easily reach down without getting lost as you could directly see the lake along the trail. We could clearly see paragliders gliding in the sky with Fishtail Mountain at the backdrop. There are few shops along the way where you can stopover for water, cold drink or light snacks. With 2 stops we reached Khahare near Fewa Lake in an hour.

If you have one day in Pokhara and want to try something new, I would highly recommend you to just try this trail. You will not regret as you could see IMAX view of the Himalayan range, enjoy some local food, visit Paragliding take off zone, paraglide if you are interested and hike downhill to the lake in just 3 hours.
